Would anybody expect the home of their dreams to appear without first taking action such as pouring a foundation, hanging drywall, or nailing shingles on the roof? Of course not. However, often we expect our dream—helping Jesus Christ save people’s lives—to miraculously happen simply because we pray, we have faith, and we so passionately want to see the mission accomplished. But don’t forget what James (2:17) told us: Believing without taking obedient action is useless. God, what would happen if we serve you and serve others? Teach us how to roll up our sleeves, wash the dishes, and just maybe ….. save the world.
